Music for the Heartland

The Newark-Granville Youth Symphony and Chamber Strings bring together gifted young orchestra musicians from Licking and surrounding counties, providing opportunities to study and perform a broad range of orchestral repertoire. We are committed to inspiring cultural awareness and appreciation of music, strengthening our region's existing school music programs, and helping students develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.

The Youth Symphony performs 3 concerts a year and rehearses on Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 8:15 PM at the OSU-N/COTC Reese Center Auditorium from September - May.

The Chamber Strings performs 2 concerts a year and rehearses on Wednesdays 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at the OSU-N/COTC Reese Center Auditorium from September - May.

AUDITION DETAILS

Auditions will take place on Sunday, May 18th

The OSU at Newark / COTC Reese Center

Application deadline: Friday, May 9th

Audition time will be sent out: Monday, May 12th

Requirements:

Newark-Granville Youth Symphony

A prepared solo no more than 4 minutes in length. (Solo should be comparable to OMEA HS Solo and Ensemble contest list)
A flat major scale and D major scale. 2 or more octaves.

Newark-Granville Chamber Strings

A prepared solo no more than 4 minutes in length. (Solo should be comparable to OMEA MS or HS Solo and Ensemble contest list)
D major and B flat major - as many octaves as you can.
