Home of the Brave
Our country has a rich history and the NGSO will be celebrating the people who make our country what it is today and the people who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We begin with John Williams The Star Spangled Banner followed by Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. “Please, Remember Me” is a World Premier by composer Ching-Chu Hu based on a poem by Danny Crothers, a Vietnam War Marine from Newark, Ohio. Danny was killed in Vietnam and his powerful poem will bring thought and beauty to the evening. We then end our concert with Ellis Island: The Dream of America, Boyer’s most ambitious work to date. This Multi-faceted piece celebrates the historic American immigrant experience and the American dream. Innovative in its format, the work brings elements of the theater and multimedia into the concert hall, employing actors and projected historical images from the Ellis Island archives.
